American Rescue Plan Funds for Public Art
Muncie, Indiana
Public art shapes the feel of a community–and we believe that community voices should shape their own art and the stories it tells. In Muncie, Indiana, Storyboard is leading a community-driven process to administer $500,000 of American Rescue Plan funds for public art projects in three neighborhoods: Thomas Park/Avondale, Southside, and Whitely. The works that will emerge from this effort will be transformative - both for the neighborhoods in which they reside and for the City of Muncie as it elevates its collection of public art. The works in progress are deeply connected to community values, celebrating history and neighborhood pride while activating and uplifting the public realm for all.
Storyboard, alongside Lauren Day, hosted a community workshop for neighbors to share their values, potential installation locations, and how they want to be able to interact with new artwork in the Whitely neighborhood.
Storyboard managed the RFP process for all three neighborhoods, inviting community-aligned artists from an applicant pool to submit proposals for each of the identified installation sites. Storyboard is now providing project management services as five major public art installations move through fabrication, installation, and soon, celebration.
